Default 2500, HD, hoods, drive train, questions

can someone help me with figuring out whats what for the diferent years. some of my questions are.

if the truck has the big hood on it does that make it a HD, and if it doesn't have the big hood then it isn't an HD? what years did the HD come out and did they continue to make the non HD?

seems to me all the 2500's 2001 and newer have the big hood on them, is this true or have i just not came across a 2500 non HD 01?

Here is a 2001 2500 NON HD http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2431587319

Still has the small hood. Also Chevy appears to have done away with the 1500HD 4 door for a 2500 4 door.

ok i think this is how it goes. in 1999 the 1500 and LD 2500's came out. they both shared the same hood. I 4got when the hd's came out but i think it was 2000. They had the raised grill. so from 2000 on you had the 1500, 1500hd and LD2500 w/ the normal grill and the 2500hd and the 3500 w/ the raised grill. I think they still made the classic 3500 untill 2001 for comercial buyers, but i'm not sure on that

Ok, I'll take a stab at this one. The 2500HD's have to have this kind of front end.

Has to have the big bumper, wide grill bar and domed hood. There were no HD model trucks till 2001. Prior to that they were only 2500's. They have teh same body style as the 1500 series. The 2500HD will also have a rear like this one.

Its a 10.5" 14 bolt rear. The regular 99-00 2500 series have a 9.5" 14 bolt rear. Also, open the driver door. The GVWR on a HD should be 9200 lbs. I think the regular 2500's are 8700 lbs. Hope this helps. Any other questions, ask away.

Ok here's the deal there is a heavy duty and light duty 3/4 ton truck both wear 2500 badging. the light duty is the same front end as the 1/2 ton the heavy duty 3/4ton is on a different chassis that is 2inches taller in section(nessecary to fit the allison) these trucks have the taller hood, a different grill and a taller bumper top cap. an easy way to look is thew hood shape and the sugar scoop for the grille in the bumper top cap. the 03' on trucks just have a taller bumper top cap. there's more differentiation coming but I'd have to kill you all if I told you.

MAN! Your truck is huge! I'd run over all sorts of **** with that...children, wild animals, and little econoboxes.

Oh I thought those new trucks had an 11.5" 14bolt??
