Yes, all get the 9.25" front diff.
Say, doesn't Eaton make an E-Locker for that 9.25" front axle?

My dad has a 2001 GMC Crew Cab 1500 HD, and it has the regular hood.
GMC never utilized the raised hood, 2500hd 01 and up etc..
I beleive the grille is raised and the bumper but the way the hood is designed they don't have the raise the chevys have.

Correct me if I'm wrong, when the 1500hd came out wern't they meant to replace the first 2500 non HD series released in 2000 because of the release of the 2500/3500HD.??

My buddy's 1500hd 2001 has a frame 2" taller than my 1/2 ton making me think the 1500HD do not share the same frame as a regular 1500. Other than the obvious fact it's longer to support the extra cab. Correct me if I'm wrong?

reg cab 1500 look like **** with a HD hood

the 1500 HD is actually a 3/4 ton its purely a marketing gimick as alot of people don't want 3/4tons the 1500 HD was done to give GM a half ton crew cab as right now only the HD's accomodate a full crew cab.

Thanks,
I was being pompus and tooting my own horn.
I thank the deer I smacked in 2001 so I was able to get the fresh new hood when they came out.

Hey, I just registered for this post. lol i guess i am a car nerd at heart. heres how it goes down.

99 New truck comes out.
1500- 1/2 Same as today
2500- 3/4 Ton, 8600 GVW. Light duty I believe they had semi floating axles (Some full floating I believe).
01 the new "HD" comes out
2500HD- New bad boy on the block, 9200 lb GVW, 10.5" axle full floating from 6.0L, 8.1 and Duramax get 11.5" Big daddy rear
3500- 11,400 (?) GVW. Again same axles as above only dual rear wheels.
01 2500 LD was still avalable in limited setups and still is today.

1500HD- is really a 2500 Light Duty.

Yes Eaton makes the E locker for the front diff on the these HD's. Umm any questions???
Also, The HD has a totally different front suspension. It is wider different hubs and spindles I believe.

Flem,

It is the 2500 LD, you can tell by looking at the brake size and frame setup. 1500HD is NOT 2500HD frame.

P.S. The only reason they had to make the frame bigger was to fit the Allison Transmission.

Monte is right. The 2500HD frame is 2" bigger than mine.
