Well my dad just got an 05, the brakes are way better than the ones on my 04. The E fans are sweet, make for more room and take away fan sound at take off.

????

Did the 04s not come with fuel filters also? I just looked at mine and didnt see one, Im totally bummed!

Am i understanding all of this correctly, l33 has ls6 heads, a slightly larger cam, higher compression, and electric fans, and there was only a 10-15 hp increase? Is GM lying or am i just stupid?

I don't think all of the above is totally true. I find it hard to believe that GM would toss on LS6 heads without making note of it somehow, not a\calling anyone a liar, but i would like to speak to someone at powertrain, or verify the heads personally, number wise, and pull of the ex. manifold to check the exhaust port shape.

Yeah, with all of those changes, i would think it would be in the 340 range.

As for GM making a note of it "Somehow". Go to a dealer and get a brochure. They do not call them LS6 but state new high flowing heads. They call it an H.O. 5300.

The head casting numbers on my L33 are 799. "799" is an LS6 head casting. It comes from Mexico, where the standard LS6 casting "243" comes from Canada. I assume GM expanded the LS6 head production to Mexico to meet demands for all the vehicles starting to run these heads - LS6, LS2, 05 GTO, 05 SSR, 05 5.3 HO, etc... They are basically the same thing. They are the LS6 casting with a mix of 01 valves and 02+ springs. That means the cam can support 560+ lift w/o problems.
The connecting rods on the older Gen III motors were press pin fit, while the new motors have floating pins. The pistons have a coating to reduce wear and clearances are now tighter. That's GMs solution to the noises often reported as piston slap.
Oh yeah, the H.O. 5.3 is now running 9.9:1 compression, up from 9.5:1.
We just need to know what if anything they did with the cam. I know the jump from 285 HP to 295 HP on the LM7's got some cam spec changes. I would be interested in seeing the specs between the L33 and LM7 cams.

Don't LS6 heads have a larger combustion chamber than regular 5.3 heads? All things being the same otherwise, you'd have a drop in compression. Did they change pistons too?

Who will be the first to take the heads of an L33 to verify the chamber volume and valve size?
