Default 2004 2500HD 6.0L needs a cam for towing...

Who has done a cam swap in a 6.0L truck that uses it for towing? We tow a 7500 lb boat behind the truck, with cargo and fuel 8500... The goal here is to get some quick power without sacrificing low end out of the hole...

I was thinking the LS6 cam, but ive only done cam swaps in FBodies and Vettes... so no idea on the outcome of a cam and its effects on towing and real low end. Converter upgrade is NOT an option... current mods are cat back, intake and poweraid, while headers may be in the near future.

The comp cams 212/218 highlift seems to be the best cam for keeping lowend and not needing a stall ect ect.

The 212/218 "MIGHT" be borderline on tuning.

Personally, I'd go for the 206/212... I'm thinking of putting it in my motor in about a months time.

From what I hear about the LS6 cam in the trucks, is that it's sleeping until upper RPM's. It does little to nothing down low.

Oops - I misread 'converter upgrade is not an option' for 'computer upgrade...'

I think the 212/218 would be good. Definitely can't go wrong with the smaller 206/212.

Look at my post of a few months ago and follow the other threads in the posts https://ls1tech.com/forums/showpost....39&postcount=7. You can see my truck and trailer here http://community.webshots.com/user/sbryant2100. Either the Comp 54-408-11 or the 54-412-11 would give you a nice improvement over stock. I really like my cam/springs/retainer/headers/induction system combo. The truck needs a tune beyond what the Hypertech III can provide and I plan to get the EFILive/FlashScan when it becomes available. I currently have EFILive and it's a great product.

However, there are no aftermarket cams currently on the market that really optimize the power/torque curves for spirited daily driving and towing in mind. Perhaps that will change in the future.

There is always the option of a custom grind! If you want brute torque, I have been suggested numerous times to NOT go with a split duration. But to go with a 212/212 .5xx .5xx on a 114 LSA.
