How many miles are on the truck? Do you plan on towing? Consider the supporting modifications, as well...
Sonnax 1-2 3-4 billet servos 77911-03K and 77767K
Camshaft (Texas Speed, Elgin, and Summit for the sake of cost) Depending on use of the truck, keep duration at .050 below 220
Valve Springs-Dependent on Cam but LS6 springs if you're below .550 lift or if you're over .550 lift Comp 915, 918, or PAC 1219
Pushrods are recommended but not mandatory unless the measurement is off
Depending on miles and potential slack, be prepared to replace the timing chain however, if it's not worn, I wouldn't touch it since you then have to mess with the oil pump.
Long tube headers and y-pipe.
Higher stall torque converter. I have a trailblazer I-6 converter in my 5500lb avalanche and it's a little bit higher than stock but opens up when I get on it.

What's your budget? I understand ideally you would want someone to give a recipe. I'm running a comp 54-451-11, long tubes with cats, ported and shaved heads (57cc), and a tune with Sonnax billet servos and a trailblazer I-6 converter. No problems moving 5500lbs, truck has the factory 20s and a 3.73 gear. You have a lighter truck, Put $2500 away and grab:
Sonnax 1-2 3-4 billet servos 77911-03K and 77767K
40k Transmission cooler
Camshaft: Elgin 1840p
Valve Springs: Comp 915, 918, or PAC 1219
Valve stem seals
Valve spring compressor
Pushrods are recommended but not mandatory unless the measurement is off
Long tube headers and y-pipe.
Higher stall torque converter. I-6 Trailblazer (GM55 at Advance Auto) is $150 and flashes to 2500rpm, great for the street. Circle D is like $600 for something closer to 3000 but it makes a significant impact on acceleration and can take more of a beating.
Finally....you'll need a tune. That'll get you 330hp to the wheels or so and reliable and will last. If that isn't enough, forced induction is next

If you wish to keep the rest of the truck stock, our Stage 1 Truck Cam (link) does excellent. We do have larger versions also (stage 2 or stage 3), if you intend to add more modifications, such as headers and/or a stall. Really though just a cold air intake, our stage 1 cam, and a set of electric fans if your truck didn't come with them will make for really nice gains without having to do exhaust or a converter.
