I sure can. I don't like to knock anyone until I try it so I gave it a shot to have a pcm tuned. I got the new tuned pcm via mail I was very excited when it got here because I had heard so many good things and satisfied customers. I install the pcm step by step as per the instructions. I got it installed and it was running great when I was driving in town from stop light to stop light until I stompped on it to get on to the freeway. This sucker fell flat on it's face and was knocking and pinging real bad. It wouldn't get up to traffic speed and then the freakin check engine light comes on and I was lucky that the next exit was only a 1/4 mile . I got off the freeway and pulled over to check it out (I had left it running) the temperture was getting hot and the fans weren't kicking on. So I shut it off and let it cool. After about 30 min. I go to fire it up and it cooled down and seemed to run good so I drove it home. At this point the check engine light was still on. I bought one of the scan tool from autozone to scan codes and it came up that it needed a crank re-learn . I called a friend who has a shop acroos town and he told me he could do it quick and get me back on the road. I get the re-learn done and I'm in bussines. My truck was running great I had no problems no check engine light the fans were working , good gas mileage. At that point I was a happy customer for about 2 weeks. I went on vacation To Los Angeles and then I was going to Vegas afterwards I am coming from The Bay Area. It was a long drive and the truck was running good. I brought some tools, the scan tool, and was on my way. I made a rest stop at the city right before I go up the Grapevine to clean my windshield use the bathroom that kind of stuff. I go and start up the truck and the freakin check engine light comes on. I was pissed but this time I was prepared. I hook up the scan tool and it says left bank misfire . I did not notice a mis when I was driving it or when I had started it up. So I cleared the code and waited and started and shut it off and then started it a couple times to see if the light would come back on. Well it didn't so I was back on my way to my in-laws house deep into LA. All the traffic and the stop and go and no check engine light. So I thought the truck was OK now. Yeah right. I was at my in-laws and I had the hood open and was checking the oil and fluids. THEN. The freakin truck started up with nobody in it and the keyes were in my pocket(and no I do not have a remote starter). I was like What the F%^k how and the hell did that happen. I put the key in the ignition and tried to shut it off by the key didn't do a damn thing so I had to choke out it's air supply. I yanked off the K&N filter and covered it with a plastic bag and my hand to choke it out. I was kinda funny I had never had to choke out a car before but I have do it on some dude. Any ways. After it sat once it was not running about 3-5 minutes later It starts back up the key is still in my pocket and it running and none of the gauges were working inside like the truck was not on. All the gauges were at zero the Tach was not working the oil pressure volts nothing. I had to choke it out again but this time I un- hooked the battery. It was about 8 at night so I guess we were in for the night until I could call Nelson in the a.m. I get up early and hookup the battery and just sit in the truck to see if it start by itself again. But it didn't. So I called Nelson and told him the problem and he was stumped he or myself had never heard of a truck starting by itself . So I didn't know what to do. So I put it behind me and went on with my vacation. After speaking with Nelson I had called home and asked my Dad to overnight ship my original Pcm To me which I had not sent to Nelson yet for a core. I went and had fun that day until I was on my way back to the in-laws for the night and the check engine light comes on again. Now what. I had three different codes this time but was still running fine. I get to the in -laws and park it for the night(with the battery un-hooked).I get up in the a.m. and hookup the battery and start up the truck to see if the check engine light was still on and it wasn't. I then put the scan tool on it and it shows no codes. I went to disneyland and every were I go I had to unhook the battery just to make sure my truck won't start when I'm not there to put a choke hold on it. Well for the next day or so it was running fine and I now had my original Pcm to put back in if I needed to. Well off to Vegas it was hot as hell in the desert it was 115 degress and the truck was running the best it has ever ran and it was loving the heat for some wierd reason. It was an empty highway just me and a Jetta cruising at 100 mph and the dude driving that damn thing looked over to me and he punched off on me and my wife was looking at me and said you let that Piece of **** do that to you. Well she wasn't even finised saying that and I caught up to him quick. I was at his door keeping up with him and he looked at me like what the hell those trucks start shutting off at 98 mph . Well thats what I was thinking when he was talking to the other dude in the car. Then I looked at him and I estimate we were going 120mph and I punched it . I gained about 5-8 car lenghts on him quick and the truck was still pullin hard until 5800 rpms . I did a mph verses rpm thing on smoke up website and it came out to be 145 mph with my gears and tire size. Well I get to Vegas and it was hot I mean HOT. I get to the hotel we were ging to be staying in and we get our stuff to go check inwhen we start walking away from the truck I remembered that I forgot to unhook the battery. So I unhook it and leave the truck there. The next day I went to go check on it and start it up a the check engine light comes on. ****. What now, put the scan tool on it well it says it needs a relearn. I try to find a dealership to do this for me and while I was sitting in the truck trying to call them the light goes off. I un hook the batery and lock it up I didn't need the truck anyway we walked everwere any how. Well we left for days later and we were going back to LA and right in the middle of the desert the truck starts acting up again . It was so hot that all the windows were very hot to the touch. The truck starts running worse and now the check engine light comes back on it has lost alot of power and was knocking and pinging and I had just had enough. I pulled over on the side of the highway and when I got out of the truck the heat made me break into an instant sweat to do emergency surgery on my truck. I did't even bother with the scan tool I just put the original Pcm back in . I contiued withe the trip home and when I had got home I called Nelson and he sent me out another Pcm and I had installed it and it had problemes right of the bat. I had trouble starting and when I went to take it for a drive the transmission was starting out in 2nd gear and would shift to third but no over drive and still no first. Well I guess the 3rd time was not the charm for me and I was done with the Tune. I called Nelson and told him about the issues I was having and he told me that It had went into limp mode. I had told him it just is not working for me and asked for a refund and he is a nice guy and apologized and gave me a refund and offered me a good discount if I ever wanted to try the PCM tune again. He also offered to send me another Pcm so he could figure out what went wrong with my tune. But I said no it's ok. So that is my experience with the tune it was great when it was running good but when it starts by itself and the check engine lights I just had enough. Thats why I said the tune just didn't work out for me. Sorry for the long *** story but I will not just tell anyone or try to knock Nelson I myself just had bad luck. But since someone asked then I'll tell the story. I have friends and there Nelson tunes run great go figure Huh. Maybe if I got a really good deal and get to keep my original PCM i might give it another shot because 145 mph sure feels nice.

I'm just a little confused about that part.
The 99-04 programming has a fan indicator (set to 'no fans' for stock programming), which I believe was put in for street rodders, that must be set to AUX fans. This now says to the PCM: hey, send a ground signal to pin 42 based on the fan1 temperature settings. So, if adding e-fans to be controlled by the PCM, both of these settings must be programmed: the fan indicator and the temps for the fan1 on/off.

The gas prices are just to damn high and would like to get those 2-3 more miles per gallon again.
So, it seems that the efan harness worked out OK for you, it was the reprogramming that you received that really didn't work - this is why I asked. I was wondering why the harness wouldn't work out for you - it is the way it was written. Thanks for the explanation, though - it says alot.

If you're talking about not using the PCM to control the fans - Yes, there are other ways. One way is to wire it with a manual switch - you turn the fans off/on at your desire. Another way is to use an aftermarket temp control, much like the VSC that came with your flex-a-lite fans. You can always wire in a manual override switch(s) for on/off.

Snakeoiler- I would like to wire in fans fans without using the PCM. Could I use the VSC from flexalite to do this? I also want to put in a manual overide just to make sure the fans will be working. Or is it one or the other? If I hooked them up using a toggle switch will I have to run two different switches for the two fans? Or would it be just one switch to run both fans? I know one of them only turns on when the A/C is on. If someone has a link to a wiring diagram that would be cool. Also would I have to go to GM dealer to get the wire connectors for the fans? Thanks for your time.

Absolutely, you could use a VSC, if you prefer. You could put in two switches, one for each fan - or, depending on the wiring, I think you could put in one switch for both fans. I do not how the wiring for the VSC is performed, but I would think either option is feasible.

I know that you can get the pigtails for the fan connectors at the dealership, but I hear they are on the high side ($45?).

I guess I have a few options. I still have the instructions for the flexalites and Flexalite still owes me a Vsc. I'm going to try the Vsc route and see if I can some how also put a toggle switch in. Yup I kinda figured the pigtails were going to be pricey. Might see if I can find another pig tail from the parts store and splice them in and cut off the originals just to save a little cash.
Thanks

The VSC has gotten a bad rap because the first generation of them had a defect that caused them to fry. The new ones are actually pretty good and have some good features. They turn the fans on and off slowly to reduce charging system stress, they are variable speed in proportion to radiator temp, they have inputs for the AC compressor lead as well as manual enable/disable switches, and they will run the fans for 30 secs after shutdown if necessary. It's a pretty nice setup compared to what most people run.
