2001 5.3L Mods...questions
#1
Im starting to mod my truck after driving it a year. I just bought a set of fans from a member on here and Im curious of how well the swap work as far as power. I know Its not gonna be much but the manual fan really drags the motor down niot to mention all the room im gonna free up under the hood.
What kind of gain can i expect? 5 hp?
Also, Im replacing the engine soon and its getting a Z06 cam and springs. What kind of realistic gains can i expect there? I will not have a stall or gears at the time. I have heard anything from 20-40 HP.
Should I do any porting on the stock heads to gain a little more when i have the engine out? I do have experience with this however I am new to LS engines and I hear that the stock heads are pretty good.
Are there any other stock takeoffs that I can buy from used parts yards that will be a benefitial mod to my 2001 5.3L? Vette stuff? Denali, ....

You're right on the money with all the estimations. I wouldn't really bother with porting the heads, just given the combination as you describe it they shouldn't limit any of the power you're going to make.
What you could do if you wanted to spend some money, is get a set of 243/799 casting heads and a GMT900/TBSS intake manifold. These heads are the best flowing stock cathedral port heads and the same can be said about the intake manifold.
