Hi Guys,

I've been an LS1 guy for a while. I've also ridden in some '05 trucks w/ the 5.3. A couple days ago I bought an '08 Silverado w/ a 5.3. This thing feels like a turd! Whats the deal? Are they de-tuned for a break in period or what? It feels like they've increased torque management 100X's. Can someone offer some insight?

 

HEAVILY detuned thanks to all the TM.... you should feel mine now... rcsb w/ borla exhaust cai and a nelson tune... REALLY helped. nothing to great but i can walk on a new mustang gt so im happy for now lol for now

 

I agree 100%! An intake, exhaust, and a recently added Nelson tune has turned my truck into a muscle truck! The factory adds lots of TM and safegaurds for the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty, but you're $1000 away from a completely different truck. spend it!

 

yup 160 t-stat at least... $15 at auto zone...

 

How much TM could I safely pull out with an HP Tuner? And what else would you guys do?(specific to tuning)

I have the 4.8 with a Air Raid Jr Kit, and a Super 44 with a turn down and I feel like a I got a real motor now.

I'm waiting for a tune and 4.56's

 

i dont know much about the new trucks, but on ours you can remove all of it, as well as abuse mode, burst retard and some other stuff i'm sure. you may want to leave a little in just to keep the tranny happy. a lot of guys will use the tow/haul as like a sport mode (myself included) so there is some TM and lower shiftpoints etc., but when tow/haul is on its zero TM, higher RPM shifts, holds the gears longer etc. i think thats the way to go.
