i remember reading an article in a 4x4 mag a few years ago and they were comparing different differential covers. They had the clear plastic as well as several brands of fabricated covers and solid cast iron cover.
They only two covers that did not break were they plastic one and the cast iron one. The clear plastic cover would just bend but it never broke or cracked. I think they were running them over with a forklift as well as putting them into a press and some other things.

A stock cover is nothing more then about 16ga sheet metal, so if these are 1/4" poly, I could see it being much stronger. A .22 cal bullet will not penetrate 1/4 polycarbonate! That's what they use for airplane and racecar windshields and make bullet proof glass out of. I think it looks kinda neat.

Yeah but if it's flexible it's not adding structural strength.

UHHH... clear diff covers have been around for ever. I had to double check the year on this thread to make sure someone didn't go digging again.

I had 2 of them on my old 10 bolt but they both cracked.I got the 2nd free under warranty.I think it was from the rear flexing.
