Both true. Don't forget about the horsepower loss just turning the thing. More mass.

In the end, I probably will swap the 80E in. I'd rather swap it in before the 60E gets ruined. I'd rather recoup the money from a good runing 60E.

 

The reason 700r4's seemed to last a lot longer than a 60e tranny is because the Ls motors make waaay more power stock than your sbc vortec motors and what ever. Obviously, GM did not upgrade hardparts to keep up with the added power of the LS motor. On a performance note, many people have reported better ET's when swapping to the 80e because of the more desirable gear spacing. Heavier yes but, no one has reported bad fuel mileage because of the swap either. The only down side, if you want to call it that, is the 50-60 lbs. On a 5k pound truck, it ain't gonna matter.

 

The loss isn't as bad as you might think.

Thanks for the link. They say the loss isn't that bad in that thread. A 60ftlb loss is huge. I think people were focusing on the 8 hp loss instead. you would really have to see the graphs and compare where the loss was.

Either way, if that's what it takes to run the setup without failure, then so be it. I'm not that concerned with the added weight. My sub box weighs more than the difference. LOL!

 

You mean 30 ft/lb difference? Also remember that he had a T56 before, not a 4L60E.
