Default What are you guys doing to hook on the street?

My truck is just about useless on the street right now......

Case:

1. I can't take off fast, truck will just spin and get sideways
2. I can't punch it going 40, 50, or 60 or so, truck will get sideways
3. As soon as it downshifts it over, boost goes up, tires blow off, truck steps out

.....about the only thing I can do is roll into the throttle or drive it slow....
The only saving grace is it drives damn near stock so its very manageable at slow speeds/not much gas pedal

What in the hell are you guys doing to get traction?

Welcome to the useless street truck club. I have tried the 20 inch drag radial and it hooks better than any street tire. What sucks is that it is only 28 inch tall. I have been thinking of some Mickey Thompson 30 inch tall on 15 inch rim.

arent you doing a flip kit now though? that 28" tire will look more at home now. i run the 555r. theres no comparison to any of the other "performance" tires i tried that alot of guys on this forum preach. i want to try the mickey t et drag radial now. i hear it's even better. when the tires were new, i could roll into the throttle on the street and be into a 100 shot by the end of first gear and never loose traction. the older they get, the looser they get though.

I grip with 295/40/20 Hankook Ventus ST RH06 but I'm not nearly at the same power level as you.

I just mounted up a set of 295-60 r15 (30in tall) micky tompson dr today and bolted them up, I figered id give them a try and i was vary happy with the way they hooked, on my old street tires it would brake loose at 60 sometimes and now i can do a 20mph hit and it stuck, I dont have near the power but i do have a 4.56 gear and a super sport 4000 yank. I had a set of 28 by 11.5 hoosier quick time pros before and these do better. This is the best dr iv seen perform and again im vary happy.
