Default What stall for my truck? Come on in pros

Ok, so I am planning out my swap right now, will be doing it sometime in next month or so..

Will be installing 4l80E into my truck, behind a 408 stroker putting out lets say 450 to wheels, will likely spray a 100-150 shot on it, and 3.90 rear end gears.

What other info will I need to figure out what stall speed torque converter to buy?

Yep, cam is probably going to be the biggest factor in determining stall speed.

i would suggest at least a 3400, probably bigger if you are going to hit the track and not do a lot of daily driving. my cam is a hair smaller than that, and pulls great with this 3000 stall, but a little more stall wouldnt hurt me any either.

i would say your goal of 450 rwhp is going to be tough with hand worked 317's... if you are talking an n/a power level... heads are very expensive though, and since you are spraying it, just get what you can get out of the worked 317, and make up the rest with juice.

hell, i wouldnt mind a 4000+ stall, if i never drove it...and a transbrake... but i drive this one everyday..

look into Yank or Vigilante. both are very good TC's.

You don't think you can have a 60 built to take it? Whos building the 80? I would go with a 3200-3400 vig.

I had a 3500 stall in it before and it drove pretty well on the street, but still got bad 60' times at the track. as far as end goal, im pretty much there.. the 450 n/a and 100-150 shot if I want the extra power.

So think another 3500 would be decent? I was thinking maybe a 3200 but im not too experienced with stalls, so I need all the advice I can get!

I just dont want to take a chance of another 60E going out. Sure, my last one was stock lol, and lasted way longer than it should have, but it just seems the 4l80E would be the more durable route in the long run, especially since I like that right pedal a lot and its a daily driver(or was till **** broke lol)

No line up for sure on a builder, I was thinking either a stock or nearly stock 80E.. Maybe just a shift kit even.

will you spray on the launch? that 1st gear on the 80e is pretty slow out of the hole, so if you aren't going to spray out of the whole to get your '60s down, i'd say a decent sized stall. i'd do at least a 3400 if i were you, especially since you're N/A.

Id go with a 3400 considering the bottle part of the equation... if you go too high, youll risk blowing through the converter.... bouncing the limiter during shifts, etc etc etc... with that kind of power and given the spray, it will probably act more like a 3600ish converter anyway...

and def go with a PI for an 80E converter.
