Interesting the differences.

I come from the allison/duramax world. You want lockup as soon as possible and for it to stay locked on every shift.

If your gonna lock it at WO then you better have a good triple disk converter that is made for full power lock up. If not, then keep it unlocked.

Would you recommend keeping the converter unlocked, even on an essentially stock 5.3? At WOT, I feel the converter lock at about 68mph. I figured there isn't enough power there to hurt the TCC, but then again, this is all new to me and i'd rather not kill my brand new converter.

When I do tunes I set the tcc to only engage in 4th at less than 40% throttle and unlock easily. I don't belive in locking it under power.
This (basically).

Any WOT pull I always did in D3.

Burnouts at the track - start in 1st, majority of burnout in 2nd, and then shift to 3rd before letting out.

Also, not locking under power is leaving ET on the table. With the correct components (billet front shaft and 3 or 5 disk converter) it won't hurt anything.

Even with my TCC tuned to only lock at part throttle, in 3rd and 4th, this is what my single disk looked like when I pulled the trans.

Also, there is a Gotcha in the stock 2nd gear lockup table. At first glance it appears that there is no lockup in 2nd, but if you scroll down you will see that lockup is commanded at WOT above 50 MPH.

I've locked mine at wide open but mines built for it. Even at part throttle if you build enough boost it's gonna cook a single disk converter. TCC circuit has to be tuned based on the converter.

And like stated, with an 80e always use manual 3rd when beating on it.
