Default What friction material/clutches for 4l80

What do you guys recommend for replacement clutches in an 80e? Good luck with any specific brand?

Alto Red Eagles and kolene steels would be my vote.

I've have very good results from Raybestos Blue Plate Specials. The Alto clutches are very good too.

There is some company out there (cannot remember who) making kevlar clutches. These sound exotic but don't last. I would stick to Altos or Raybestos.

Thanks! I took an 80e apart most of the way to install all of the parts included in the transgo HD2 kit. I thought that if I had the right book I could re-build it myself when the time comes. What manuals do you recommend I buy when the time comes to tear it all the way down?

I have built with all of the above frictions. I truely believe that the oe high energy frictions work just fine. If you build a good tight valve body along with the pump, the manufacture of the frictions really doesn't matter. The thing with frictions is how they apply or the shift feel. I have found in the 4l80e with the hd-2 kit, the oe frictions shift very well. No need to buy anything fancy with a good hydrauliclly built unit. Vince

FWIW I agree with Vince 100% on the above.

Ive used the following kits on all but a few trans' Ive built and found nothing to complain about yet. If a guy brings me a trans and wants Altos, Blue plate specials, etc and wants to pay for them its not a problem but the OEM or Transtar stuff has worked great for me so far.

oops

That's good to hear. I use the OE frictions in my CR500 dirtbike clutch and those work very well. When the time comes, I will get another set of the OE plates. Thanks for the help
