Question Transmission questions

I am sorry I am sure this has been beat to death I have a 2001 silverado 4.3 v6 with a trans rpo of m30 (4l60e with 40k miles) the trans which is taking a (shifts poorly hearing a whining noise while shifting and is starting to drop out of gear while shifting also fluid quickly turned from red to black within 3 weeks). So now the all to fun question's of,

1) Can I really only use a trans from a 01 Silverado or Sierra v6 period?

2) What can I get a transmission from Years, & Models.

I have looked all over the forum never saw anything with a definite answer. But what I have uncovered is a wide array from saying I can only use 1 from the same and to the point of I can use any trans from 96-06 even from vans.... I am confused lol please help me!!!!

Thanks for taking the time to read this and thanks for help in advance

No, I am pretty sure it has to be from a V6 equipped vehicle. And I believe you need one from 96- up because of the PWM feature inside the pump.

If it was a V6 it should work. All the plugs should be the same.
