Default Which transmission fluid to use?

Which fluid does everyone use? I know you can't use the older style fluid in new transmissions, but what can you use? What does GM use?
I really don't want to go synthetic, too expensive and have heard bad things about clutches slipping and mine are already on the way out. I just want to drop the pan, change the filter and top it off to see if it helps my transmission problems.
thanks guys.

I just used pennzoil Dexron III in mine. I discovered my tranny was about a quart low and i guess had been since I bought it new. I think most fluid brands are ok as long as they are the right type.

Anything qualified for Dextron III would be fine.

I've been using Walmart brand, Supertech I think, since I got the truck with 17k. 100k later and the little 4L60E is still going strong even with a 6.0 in front of it and I rag on it all the time.

lol nice.. ya i use dextron III.. i wouldnt change to synthetic.. i heard that the fluid that you have been using creates a glaze over major componets of the tranny and when other types of fluids are used that it may ruin the transmission.. may be a myth.. but ppl have told me they've seen it happen.
