Default transmission cable too short?

im trying to attach my shifter cable onto the 4L80e but it will not reach the shift lever/ what am i doing wrong? i removed the C clip lock/retainer off of the shifter cable and its just being a PITA. it barely reaches if the column shifter is in park and the shift lever on the trans is in 3rd. its a 2000 S10 that originally had a 60e

What shift cable bracket are you using? I am not sure if there is a difference between a 60E and 80E mount position. I know I am using my 60E bracket on my 80E without issue.

PLEASE post a pic of your setup. i heard some people just slotted the bolt holes on the 60e bracket and used it on the 80e without issues. right now im using the 80e bracket that bolts from the top mounting bosses. EDIT. is this what i need to do?

Your bracket looks different then mine. I'll try to get a pic when I get home, hard to see mine as my front driveshaft is in the way. When I say a difference in mount position I mean distance from mount to where the cable clips in, my 60e and 80e brackets mount the same way to the bolt holes on either said of the trans connector. Your cable looks different then mine.

I had to have a new bracket made back when I did my 80E conversion.

Subscribing.

I'm in the middle of my swap, and currently have the 60 bracket held on by 1 pan bolt. I don't like it for 2 reasons, the shifter handle inside now feels sloppy, and I don't want a chance for a trans pan leak.

Edit* Never mind, some quick research tells me I'm a goof for trying to use the 60 bracket. I'll need to find the 80 bracket, and drill and tap the bosses as I don't believe I have tapped bosses around the connector.

I think mine has a cable extension on it. My cable runs way back by the fuel tank before heading up to the shifter.

That's exactly what mine feels like right now with the 60 bracket. Park feels "long" when pulling down to neutral. The rest click through like normal.
