Here goes at resurrecting this thread again in hopes of more advice. I appreciated everyone's input the first time around, ended up having the original 4l60e rebuilt with a vette servo, mild shift kit and stock converter by a reputable shop in my home town. I added a Trans Temp guage and factory Tranny cooler w/ hard lines myself 5k after the install. 18k total on the new unit (just last night) I found myself at a red light with fluid pouring out of the bellhousing. Since installing the new unit I have towed only had to tow an unloaded flatbed trailer on occasion.

I'm back to the same question but with the possibility of a n/a 6.0 motor in the next year or so. would a "sronger" 4l60 do? (upgraded sunshell, clutch packs, planetaries) or should I go for the 80 in prep for the 6.0?

Definitely means 18k miles.

For anything up to a head/cam 6.0 if be going with a built 65e. I'd buy from a sponsor. Call chuck at Finish Line Transmission.
