Uhmm, if I'm not mistaken isn't this design based off the previous NV3500? Didn't GM start putting these in the 05 and newer trucks when they signed the contract with tremec? I don't think it's going to be any different than what you already have.

I was hoping for a better design, since the NV3500 was released in 1993.

Know Differences:

Tremec: 3.82 2.31 1.42 1.00 0.83, 335TQ 6700GWV 3 diff shifter positions, 113lbs
Nv3500: 4.02 2.32 1.40 1.00 0.73, 300TQ 7200GWV 1 shifter position, 110lbs

Tremec: Multiple cone double synchronizers on 1st and 2nd
Nv3500: Single

From www.ttcautomotive.com Direct link (http://www.ttcautomotive.com/english...TR5050_196.pdf)

"Expanding upon the reputation of the New
Venture NV 3500 for being exceptionally compact
with reasonable durablility, the TREMEC TR-
3450 benefits from a multitude of features geared
towards creating a smoother-operating, longerlasting
replacement truck transmission.
TREMEC TR-3450 transmission gearsets are of
a high-contact ratio helical design and feature a
respectable 85mm center distance to promote
excellent strength while retaining equally
impressive packaging characteristics. Tapered
bearings on the input, mainshaft and countershaft
further amplify torque capacity by better controlling
distortion. Needle bearings under each gear
reduce friction for improved reliability; while
state-of-the-art synchronizer revisions make the
TR-3450 an overall pleasure to operate.
Though the TR-3450 is initially being offered as a
direct replacement unit for *1989-2006 Cheverolet
& GMC C-series pick-ups, it promises to offer
excellent versatility with the release of upcoming
models. Engineering phases have been completed
for several highly anticipated variations. TREMEC
will continue to provide updated literature with
the release of each individual TR-3450 ‘complete
assembly’ part number."

Know results: TurboGibbs on this forum went 12.58 @109 and 445rwhp 489rwtq.

Looking for others who run this transmission to post their feedback.

turbogibbs did this on a stock NV3500 transmission. From there he went to a T56. I don't recall ever hearing from him that he ran this particular transmission you're referring to. Even if it shifts faster, it has that clumsy drop in RPM's between 2nd and 3rd looking at your gear ratio chart. I wish they would tighten that up a bit. I'd be interested in know as well if anyone has had experience with this trans.

I was addressing his 5 speed gearing states he would have been running a Tremec. He did do the T56 swap, but also did a engine swap, not sure if he broke the TR though. I sent him a PM.

It was an 05 so it should have been the TR3450. I know the apperance of the outside of the case was different than my old 1995 NV3500. The stock clutch was a dream to operate but I was pushing its limits with the power at the time. It was on the verge of slipping a time or two. I'd run it again.

I have too much work in my t56 set up to change, but i'd be perfectly happy with the 5 speed back. I don't run mine hard anymore. Just 1st, 3rd, 5th, 6th or 1-4-6. The T56 ratios are too close together for daily driving and a lot of torque.

The TR3450 is officially rated for 335 ft/lbs...

According to the .pdf I got from Tremec when I asked them what the T56 was capable of when towing...

They said it's not recommended, and I should look at the 3450 or 4050, lol...

I'm looking for a beefier transmission... It's a PITA with a 4x4.
