Default trans/converter install method

Please post pics or ideas on how you go about lowering/raising your transmission using a floor jack.

This is the only one I've found so far and I need more ideas!

thanks

and anyone do this alone on the floor? or do I NEED an extra set of hands?

I use a 2x6 wide enough span the edges of the pan for better weight distribution and balance. You can also use a ratchet strap to secure the trans to the jack if you are worried about it slipping as you pry the trans from the engine. I have done a few 60s by myself but it makes it much easier with a helper when you are on your back on the floor. I am actually going to tackel pulling my 80 by myself one night this week.

The picture is basically the way I've done it about 6 times. By myself on the floor. Kinda scary.

Yea, I suggest a helper, don't try to be a hero. I had the tranny strapped to a jack and upon removal, the converter slipped out and landed on my chest after trying to catch it. Knocked the wind out of me and soaked everything in fluid.

I will be doing mine, 4x4 with transfer case, by myself. In high school I used to do side jobs with my step father, I pulled the trans and he built it. Always used a floor jack and some 2x4's. Now I have a trans jack adapter that I'll be using when the time comes...although I do have 2 friends who are mechanically inclinded, so I'm undecided. Usually when I ask for help, the help just gets in my way lol.

I also used that. Works great. I'm in a wheelchair and with my truck up on ramps I was able to sit down under the truck and install the transmission NUMEROUS times without help.
Kept running into stupid problems that required me to drop the trans again like 4 times.

Ive used that jack before, if you have access to a bike lift that makes it easier if it will go up high enough

obviously I prefer the method with a 2x4 since its my pic but its not difficult once its on there
