I think the converter will cost more than my 80e swap itself

I'm 4wd and mine wasn't too expensive.
Pick up a 80E with t/fer case and either swap the input shaft or use the t/fer case as is.

ha, yea if you buy a yank...
thats why i used the stock converter to begin with, i was tired of tranmission problems and got sick of spending on stupid crap. Just wanted it to drive.

im goin with a Edge stall when the time comes.

The stock converter looks good for deadlifting and that's about it.

I'd rather spend the money and do it right the first time and be happy then have to change it out later.

Go the 80e route it is Not more expensive than a built 65e and the swap is not that difficult.

Arent the 4l80es gears alil taller? So wouldnt your low end power decrease?

4l60es
1st gear is 3.059
4l80es
1st gear is 2.482

torque to the wheels will be reduced, however, the closer gear ratios are part of the reason the 80e can handle more power than the 60e.

depends on your setup, the tall 1st gear will help traction. And it pulls great up top.
