Question Tranny's dead... 4l65e 0r 4l80e???

OK well my 60e went about 3 weeks ago and i tried to get it rebuild but te cost just to do it wasnt worth it so, i have decided to do my revive 6.0L swap, but cant decide on what tranny to go with, which of the 2... 65e & 80e, is better, reliable, easier to swap, i cant get both around the same price...65e 38k miles $300 or 80e 80kmiles, $400, so far i have basic boltons, future plans cam & NOS later after swap, what do you guys think....

65e will be the fastest/easiest to swap and cost will be cheaper UP FRONT.

80e will be WAY cheaper in the long run, plus you get a terrific tranny.

80e is the best, but you also have to do the conversion.

65e will hold to probably 6-700, if you plan on going over that, get the 80e.

The 80E is stronger if you plan big HP numbers in the future, but it will have more parasitic loss than the 65E and 1st gear isn't as good. I'm in the same boat that my trans just went and I plan a heads/cam LQ9 in the future. I'm saving my pennies for an FLT level 5 4L65E. Direct swap (4L80E would be a little more costly and involved since I'm 4wd), better 1st gear, and less parasitic loss. If I planned to go FI, I'd definitely be saving for an 80E swap though.

^^^ is the 65E a plug in&play swap, no cutting of the crossmember, wiring, driveshaft etc.. with a 6.0l of course..

Yup, all bolt it. Its the same trans, just different internals. I just did the 80e swap and I am soooooo happy I did it, but its a lot of time and money. For what ur doing, I say a 65e with a shift kit and servos would be fine.

80E...hands down.
If you look around for a late model unit...and you or some buddy's are handy with the tools...you'll be surprised at how cheaply it can be done. I'd say same or cheaper than the 65 and NEVER have to worry about it again.
