What does your dash indicator say versus actual function when you go through the gears? I'd concentrate on getting the mechanical shifting straight FIRST, then focus on the actual gear function. If you're saying it feels like it's going from park position straight to nuetral, something may not be mechanically right.

If I set the column shifter set in P I can go through the gears into 2 but not into 1. Then when I try and bring it back to P the farthest it goes is into N or sometimes R.

Well I dropped the pan and I think I found part of the problem. I don't have the "plunger" on the driverside set right. Judging by the pictures that I took on disassembly the groove in the "plunger" is supposed to be on the rod that comes off the plate. Well mines not.

Here is a pic to show what I mean:

Is there anything else that I should look for since I'm in here. Or is more than likely the cause of the problems. I'd rather not tear into it again.

You'll have to use "" in order to post the imagine. The link doesn't show b/c it's been shortened when you pasted it to your post.

Well I took care of the "piston" and double checked the check ***** again and now the truck moves under its own power. Reverse and forward gears. But I'm still having issues getting the column shifter all the way into 1. I think I just put evrything out of adjustment when I was messing around with the cable before I decided to drop the pan. I'll mess with the adjuster tomorrow and see what I come up with.

Well I went out and played around with the adjuster with some good results. I know can shift all the way into 1 and back up into park again. It still sticks a little though so there is going to be some fine tuning needing to be done. I did have one casualty (sp) though. I ended up breaking part of the clip that sits inside the white coupler. Hopefully I can pick a new one up without having to shell out for a whole new cable. So I think I'll take it easy on any more adjustments untill I pick up a new clip.

I will say that it feels good to take the beast around the block! I don't think my hippie neighbors enjoyed the open headers all that much though. Thanks again guys for the help. I really appreciate it.
