Default Tranny ID Help.

Im confused.

Dont the 5.3's come with a 4l80E tranny? This is what i know from 2003 when I purchesed the truck. 4.8 came with the 60E and the 5.3 and up came with the 80E.

From what im reading and understanding is, GM stuck a 4L60E under the NBS 5.3. Is this Correct?

How can i tell what tranny im using?

Thanks guys.

I moved your thread to the GM drivetrain section for you for better respnse.

No the 4L60e/4L565e came with ALL 1500 series trucks, the SSS having the improved 4L65e as I recall.

intresting. When i bought the 03 Silverado, it came with the 4l60E, and when i searched, from the responces i got 5.3 came with the 4l80E and this was on ls1tech back in 03.

I guess ive been schooled. Thanks guys.

This is why everyone says the tranny needs to be upgraded to handle a S/C and a Turbo.

These tranny's where piece of **** from way back. The 80E was supposed to be the head honcho.

Oh and one more questions before i start the search.

Scale of one to ten. How easy is it to upgrade to a 80E. 1 being the easiest.

The code on the label in your glovebox you will find is "M30".
