Default TCC Solenoid ?????????'s

Ok, did some old thread searching last night and saw a few posts about the surging in Overdrive Gear. Sounded a hell of a lot like what I was mistaking for an unstable idle issue. So I tested by the method that some people said on there about getting speed up to about 50mph and lightly tapping on the brake while staying on the gas, supposedly if the rpms raise up 200rpm's that you have a TCC solenoid going out. Well, it did. Now I have not had it scaned yet, going to try and do that after work today at Autozone. But if this is my problem, what next? Has anybody here ever changed out a TCC Solenoid, or even have any idea where its located. I am assuming that its internal of the transmission. I was planning on installing a new fuddle converter next month, but maybe I should bump this to the front of the line and do the TCC while its open.

Advice, ideas, help?

that surging is something that comes from a big cam. does it only do it after you have let off the throttle?

Well, this has not been happening the entire time that I've had this cam. Its just started within the last few months. Hasn't really been bad, but at times noticable. And it doesn't seem to do it all the time. I mean yeah, I do get some surge from the cam, but thats mostly at idle at a stop in gear or in a non-drive gear. But this seems like converter slip or lockup issue. Perhaps a converter going bad? I just had a buddy of mine running the same converter crack on him. This is what is making me kinda worry.

Im pretty sure that the TC is supposed to unlock whenever you tap the brake while cruizing.

Correct. Instructions to break in the clutch on my Vigilante TC say to drive at highway speed and tap the brake to dis-engage and re-engage the clutch. You are supposed to do this 15-20 times.

After my tranny rebuild with shift kit, mine surges at around 40mph and it is DEFINITELY the TC locking. I have a tune on the way that disables TCC lockup below 45mph which should eliminate my problem.

You want to feel the converter un-lock when you tap the brake. If I were you I would put your OE plug wires back on and try it.

if you have hp tuners you can log converter slip and input/output shaft speeds
