Default TC, OD, and RPMs

Let's say that you have a 3000 stall TC. At 70 MPH in 3rd (4L60E) you are turning at (coincidentally) 3000 RPM. Since the tranny ratio changes from 1:1 in 3rd to 1:0.7 in OD, wouldn't you expect a 30% drop in RPMs from 3000 to 2100 when you got into OD? I'm only seeing a 200 RPM drop to 2800. It must be TC related, yet I don't think I comprehend why. Any help?

Can you confirm that your converter is locking up in OD?

I guess that would be a good place to start, huh? I don't have any scanning tools/software. Is there any mechanical method to know if it's locking up?
I also wonder if the higher stall 'confuses' the PCM and therefore keeps the TCC from being engaged?

With your foot on the gas, lightly touch the brake petal and see if it unlocks. You should see the revs jump a couple hundred rpm's. Sounds like its not locking.

There is a wire that controls the TCC lock up solenoid, you can run a test light to make sure it is locking (or get voltage), but it is much easier to do the test white1 mentioned.

I'll try that tomorrow on the way to work. I think you are most likely correct.

If the "foot to the brake pedal" test fails, could you tell me which wire to test?

Yes and No. I will check the fluid level next. I know for sure that the TCC is not locking. If the fluid level checks OK, what should my next step be?

Give Allen a call and see if he changed you misfire tables. If you pmc is registering misfires, it will not lock the converter. BTW what size/brand of converter did you install? Neither mine or goshawk's Fuddles would lock up after inital installation because of misfires. This is very common with lighter 9.5" converters.
