I've tried it both ways. I run about a .1 faster by not locking. Parish once stated he gained a .2 by locking. Guess I don't have the power to pull it.

NA and Nitrous motors will like it unlocked, Locked converters are good for dyno numbers.

Didn't hurt mine but I'm running one of strongest (debatable) verters going. That is a big load to be throwing at the clutch.

ive read that you should do a dyno run with it locked and unlocked. there should be a point where the two differnet graphs cross eachother(locked vs unlocked) and that is the exact spot you should make it lock up in 3rd to gain some time. it sounds like it should work but in the past i have run a couple tenths leaving it unlocked. im trying to get the to the dyno to prove this theory but everytime i try i get somethign keeping me from going .

some usually gain the mph by locking the converter. from what i hear anyways and if the converter is built to handle a lockup in 3rd WOT.

on a dyno, your hp and tq will allways cross over at 5280

that doesent make sense. i dont see how every car/truck would cross over at that rpm , someone enlighten me.

I dont know why it does but it does on any that I have looked at.

Turbo motors like the converter locked due to it loading the turbo better, just like going to a 3.42 gear over 4.10 will make a turbo car go quicker(to a certain extent of course) due to loading the turbo more.

Something about the way horsepower is measured by the amount of torque and the revolutions that make that occur, but it is slightly more than my feeble mind fully grasps.
