Default Stock '06 Z71 rides on front bumpstops?

Started to do a brake job on my daily driven '06 CCSB Z71 and before jacking the front end off the ground I decided to check how much clearance to the bump stop (as I'm considering a Poor Man's Drop for this truck and wanted to see how much clearance stock) and low and behold THERE WASN'T ANY! The bumpstop was sitting fully flush on the lower control arm. Hell, after jacking the front end completely off the ground, there is only about 1" clearance between bumpstop and LCA. Can this be normal? What has been other's experience with theirs in stock trim?

I've only had the truck for 2 months / 2K miles. (39K mi. when I got it) Immediately prior to my taking delivery of vehicle the dealer replaced both front hub assemblies. I can see where they had to un bolt the front drive axle where it attaches to the passenger side front frame rail. They also had to do a front-end alignment after the install. The truck drives and tracks fine with no abnormal tire wear to notice.

Is it possible they had to uncrank the torsion springs for the hub replacement and forgot to crank them back up? I have measured and the truck does have 1.5" of rake front to rear when empty. Is this about normal? FWIW, my '02 RCLB 2WD had 3" of rake front to rear stock when empty, which is why I installed 2" drop rear shackles and really enjoyed the ride / stance...

I haven't noticed it to ride any more harsh than previous 4x4's I've owned. I'm tempted to cut part of the bumpstop to see if it sits any lower or changes the ride any... what do ya's think? Is it possible to replace the stockers with a shorter bumpstop and if so how do you get the old one out? I pulled a part# 5161762 off the stock bumpstop...

Anyway, looking for advice, info, suggestions, etc... Let me know what ya think...

the bumpstops act as a dampener in conjunction with the torsion bars, so they should be just touching the LCA, that is the way they are designed. So if you do decrank make sure to cut accordingly you want them to JUST touch. The rake is pretty common, rclb have more yes being 2wd it sits lower in the front compared to a rear than a 4x4 does also, but 4x4 1.5" is pretty common. So in other words, everything seems perfectly fine.

Thanks much for the reply GM. I guess I'll just put it back together as-is for now and if I do decide to do the drop, I'll either cut the stockers or replace with shorter bumpstops, making sure they just touch at static ride height...

yea, just cut a nub off and to maintain a squishy rubber drill six 1/4" holes throw the bump stop sides on the last hump after you cut it, this will give it similar compression characteristics as it had when full height.

from what I've read they are not called 'Bumpstops' thet are 'Dampeners' and like he said above they work with the Torsion Bars.. Kinda crazy sounding but that's GM for ya..
