Default Size of front pinion nut on 4x4

Does anyone know what size socket is needed to remove the pinion nut on the front 4x4 unit? My friends is leaking and we want to make sure we have the right size socket at the ready before tearing it down. Thanks in advance.

Most of the 8.5 rears are 1 1/8". Don't know if this really helps much but maybe get you in the ballpark.

It got me in the ballpark, it was actually an 1 1/4", which was the biggest one I had on hand. Got lucky. Getting the yoke out was a bitch, but after that it was all good.
