Will it hurt the tranny to ride around in overdrive if I m under 50 mph? On my last car, gas mileage was actually better with it in 3 vs overdrive. I have a 05 crew cab 4x4 btw.

The answer to your question is "no", since the majority of people use D anyways.

If you truck has the 3.24 rear end, you will be better of in 3 for city use, and use D for highway use.

Overdrive is meant to save gas. Driving in 3rd makes no sense to me.

Put it in "D" and go. No worries.

"3" was meant to be driven in around town... and "D" was meant for the highways... however... logically... if you drive in 3rd.. you'll see your rpms higher and if you drive in overdrive it will consistantly stay lower... so i would have to say "D" for more reasons than this.. but its much easier to coast in overdrive than in 3rd.

Same here. I was told by a tranny shop that stop and go traffic while in D is hell on the tranny. The computer is always shifting up and down. If you get to an open stretch put 'er in D other wise stay In 3rd. Really, it probably doesn't make one bit of difference. As soon as you add some HP/TQ youre gonna buy a built tranny anyway.
