Default p/s pump or gear box?

on my 01 z71 every time i trun the wheel right i get this squeeking and sometimes roughness, i can hear it too even just parked, manly at low speeds with low idle. this evening i put the truck in 4wd and made a right turn and it did it really badly, kinda scared me, is it the gear box of p/s pump?

Mine does the same thing only when I turn left, If I ever get of my lazy ***, I'll steal the shops flow/psi manifold and test the pump.

This problem is not a bad problem it's just the fluid in the powersteering pump gets low when the wheel is turn competely to one side and the pump squeals, you just need to add a little more fluid, but not much. It might not hurt to replace the fluid in the powersteering system.

I think Engine RPM has a lot to do with it.

yeah i replaced the belt, and the fluid is at the right level, but when i hit the throtle it goes away, it is not as loud under the hood as it seems to be in the cab, but i could be muffled by the engine. it does it worse in 4wd, how do i get it tested?

I don't why it would get worse while in 4wd, but it does sound like the power steering pump bearings are shot. One way to test is remove the belt and grab the pulley and try to moving it up/down and in/out, if it moves in either direction you will need to replace the pump.

The only thing I can think of making a sound while in 4wd and turning wheel all the way is the outer cv-joint is low on grease, grease dried up, or the joint is wore out. This sound is usually a popping or clicking sound and it should happen all time whether in 2 or 4wd.

Have you ever pulled off the crank pulley?

well i will have to try that with the pump, as for the 4wd, i drove it today in 4wd and it it did fine, but i did noticed tha when i turned the wheel to make a right or left hand turn i could hear roar or soehting coming form the cv joints but only in 4wd and on pavement no poping or clicking.
