Find a 14 bolt 9.5" ring gear rear out of a 2wd SS Silvy or a 2005-06 VHO B4V "performance package" truck. It also comes in the2500 seroes trucks and maybe even the 1500 HD.

This rear is similar to the dif used in the 90-93 454SS truck and should suit your needs.

this should be a very easy install, i bet the spring perches are in the corrcet position. If you are looking for 11's I would recommend an aftermarket axle shaft upgrade. I have seen the axles break in a low 12 second truck, but there was some wheelhop in that setup, it was powered by a 509" BBC.

I just went back and relaized you are a Z71, does that mean you are 4wd? I know they made a Z71 2wd something. If you are indeed 4wd, you should be fine with a 14 bolt for sure as the power will be shared between the front and rear differentials. A 2500HD transfer case will work niceley, try to locate a 2500 T-case that is the same as your truck's. Like autotrack or not.

Parish ran 10's with a 10 bolt in 4wd.
I have nothing but good things to say about Richmond gear, I exploded 3 Powertrax lock rite lockers, my Richmond 4.10's ate up the locker and spit out the pioeces. The ring and pinion were slightly scratched up, but i got another 100,000 kms out of them. I was amazed.

peace

Yes it is a 4wd...but I don't think the front diff can handle launching in 4wd...I will be on the look out for the transfercase and definately for the rear end out of a silverado ss ... did those other trucks have a coil over rear suspension (mine does).

BTW, what are the chances of converting to an AWD setup like on the Silverado SS's? Feasible?

Aren't all 14 bolt rear ends set up for leaf springs? Avalanches have coil spring rear suspension.

I hate to feed your addiction, but here is a link to get you started:

http://www.drivetrain.com/4x4.html

Take your pick of custom rear diff. assemblies, Ford 9", 14 bolt, etc
They will make it fit the AV ready to bolt in for 1900.00 plus shipping. Includes spring perches, shock mounts, etc.... They will add the limited slip/locker of your choice for 375.00 BTW, the 1900 includes new ring gear and pinion as well as gear ratio of your choice.

Hope this helps......

yes they are, but I am sure something could be modded up for a coil spring setup, as long as the Avalanche isnt an IRS setup.

The front dif CAN take the launches in 4wd.
Why goe to an AWD setup, you allready have a 4wd transfercase?
The AWD Silvy SS has the same 10 bolt you have, it must be a 2wd SS or a VHO B4V truck or a Trailblazer or 3/4 ton as they use the 14 bolt rear.

If you want strength install a 2500HD transfer case, much stronger than teh AWD setup.
I would go wit teh 4wd transfer case over the AWD because you cant do a proper burnout with teh AWD, with the 4wd transgfer case, you do a burnout in 2wd, then selsct 4wd for the run down the track.
Parish has made lots of 10 and 11 second passes in 4wd
