Default Which Rotors for 01 TahoeLT Autoride

Well, I had the left rear off the tahoe today,and noticed that the inner surface of the rotor was thinner than the outside(typical GM). So I have decided to do Pads/Rotors on the ol/ girl(got 151k) so I'm sure its due.

The Specs- LT Autoride/with the heavy tow package(has the factory trailer brake pig-tail), and it appears to have 2 piston aluminum calipers.

Well, I looked online,and found that the pads come in single and dual piston designs, no biggie. but I noticed that there are 2 different rotor sizes- 325mm and 330 mm(dia.) and 85 and 96mm(widths).

So which rotor do I need to buy? Also, should I get the Ceramic pads? I really don't have time to wait on Hawk pads at this time. Not sure if anyone even sells em locally.

Thanks guys, nate

You need the larger. I had a similar problem with the rears on my old 01Tahoe. If you have 3.73 gears with the tow package, it uses the larger. I believe the GT5 code in the glovebox confirms but I'm not 100% on GT4 vs GT5.

Definite YES on the ceramic pads unless you like cleaning your wheels. I ran Praise Dyno cryo treated pads and rotors but I like Raybestos premium ceramic in a stock pad. Also had good luck with Wagner Thermocool.

I thought the gt5 was the single piston design(looked at prices over on rockauto) but i can double check. Where can I find the options, are the RPO codes on the door like camaros? there is a factory tag on the rear-end,will that have the ratio? I'm pretty sure it has 3.73's, the truck as every single option-onstar,power sunroof,premium stereo,two-tone leather interior, alll the heavy tow wiring and hitch,and it looks to have all the Z-71 underbody plates,front/rear stereo, front/rear hvac,etc,etc.

The RPO Codes should be in the glove box.

GT4 = 3.73:1 Rear axle Ratio
GT5 = 4.10:1 Rear Axle Ratio

i havent had good luck out of ceramic pads at all. we put them on a suburban all the way around at my dads shop and lady came back and said she had ran through several stop signs. we pulled em' off and went back with factory GM semi-metalic pads and she loved em'.

thought this might just be a fluke due to the wieght of the sub. so we decided to try them on my dads truck, just the rear. he has a 2000 GMC ecsb and he had the same issues and noticed a big diff. just having them on the rear. we swapped those out also back to factory GM semi-metalic pads and the difference is unbelievable....

just food for thought having a tahoe. just giving you my personal opinion and experiences, not bashin anybody else's opinion on ceramics.....

In that case I had it backwards. The GT4 RPO requires the larger rotors.

Also, the Performance Friction type carbon metallics work very poorly when cold but very good when hot. Don't like those as 53bowtie mentioned, they work very badly when you first stab them. Also hard to go wrong with the stock replacements as they seem to last quite a while with little dusting.

i dont know much about sizes but when i did my front rotors with the Powerslot's, i saw that they made a rear to fit my truck as well. i have the tow package and the 3.73s as well. i was very pleased with the price and performance, i have EBC pads to go with it also very happy though they squeaked terribly for the first week but quiet ever since.
