Default Ring gear size question

Richmond gears, 3.73 ratio. My buddy has a set for sale 8.5" i know we have 8.6" but if i go with a performance carrier, i was under the impression this is the gear i buy anyways. Can someone correct me if i'm wrong, and advise me if i should purchase it?

They are the same, both are actualy 8.5 although different ratios will measure different. The only difference between the 8.5 and 8.6 is the carrier bearings.
