as far as I know, if the ring & pinion are the same ones as before, no, however, I had the detroit locker installed and there may be a difference.

New bearings generate a lot of heat, and are actually a big part of the break in procedure. The extra heat from the bearing will actually cause the gears to overheat. If you are replacing all the bearings get a few heat cycles in them before any long drives.

What are heat cycles? I will be getting the work done tomorrow and driving back to texas from alabama saturday. How many heat cycles should I do? How long between heat cycles. I am getting a t/a aluminum diff cover if that helps with cool down times.

Dirve about 75 to 100 miles then stop and let the truck cool down. Then do the same thing after the next 100 miles or so. Until you get 500 or more miles. Do not tow in the first 500 miles, etc....The idea is to let everything break in, heat and cool, together a couple of times.

100 miles at a time huh. Thats a good ways. How long should it cool down for? What about doing a little performance driving will that hurt it?

I just sent you a PM. BTW- 75-100 miles is too much, they would have overheated and blued at that point. Just 15 minutes or so followed by a 1/2-1hr cool down.
