Quick help on gears 8.5 or 8.6

Default Quick help on gears 8.5 or 8.6

I am looking into gears will these work or are they F bod gears, I need the 8.6 ring gear??

8.5"s fit in there.... so do the 8.6"..
But the 8.6" wont fit in the older 8.5s

Um ok so a 8.5 or 6 ring gear will work for sure, long as it isn't a pre 01 rear. What about the eaton posi units, they are going to be a 30 spline, I only see them for a 8.5..

My mechanic couldn't get my first set of gears installed, we think they were for an 8.5 axle, I bought them 2nd hand and couldn't tell for sure. No issues when the 8.6s were installed

mine was 8.625, but i think 8.5 would have worked, thats why they sent me a shim kit in the install package

um 8.5 and 8.625 gear sets are exactly the same. Now if you swapped differentials, it may have had the wrong bearings pressed in. The 8.5 and 8.625 bearings are different.
