Default Question on wheel safety

I bought some old 6 lug 16x8 American Racing wheels and after taking the center cap off I noticed they are only held by the lug nuts and don't rest on the hub. I have never owned a pair of rims like these and I want to know if they are safe for drag race use. Need to know before I spend money powder coating them.

My wheels don't rest on the center hub. They are centered by the lugs. Don't know why they wouldn't be safe.

Most of the wheels I have seen are not hub centric. If it bothers you are you get a vibration you could order hub rings that go in the hub opening and over the hub of the brake rotor/drum. But I doubt you will have any trouble.

They are perfectly fine to use, just be aware that they need to be balanced with the correct adapter for a lug centric wheel. Also when you mount the, torque is critical. I usually torque mine down in three rounds using the normal star pattern.

Thanks. I feel much better. I just wanted to make sure no one had broken the studs taking off on nitrous.

My Bogarts are lug centric. You'll be fine. Spray away!
