Default Planning for transmission failure

I'm sure I'm going to beak my 4l60e again, probably not long after I get this build done. That being said, I have been tossing around the idea of putting a th400 in it, it's not a daily driver, set up mostly for drag racing, I've already spent a lot more than I planned on and a th400 would be cheaper than a 4l80e and just as strong if not stronger.

What needs to be done for the swap? Parts, wiring, speedometer, tuning, etc?

I did a search and checked the stickies but didn't really come up with anything useful.

I do make the tubular crossmember for the th400, along with the 4l80e. You'll need a converter. Wiring shouldn't need any of that. Tuning wise I'm not sure what you'll need to do, might search on ls1 tech on what guys do on the tuning, I think you set it up thinking its a manual trans?

i think you need some parts from 4l80e like the rear u-joint and crank spacer and flex plate from B&M
i am not 100% sure about what you need for swap but that is what i remeber

I was wondering of your crossmembers would work for a th400 as well, Tyler.

It would make sense to set it up as a manual transmission, and rossler makes a speed sensor for the th350 to work with an LS, wondering if the same sensor would work for a th400.

TCI makes a flexplate that allows the use of any conventional th400 torque converter/stall. I would have to have my driveshaft shortened and buy a 3 speed shifter to replace the 4 speed column shifter.

Budget on swapping out the rear end gears too, you're going to need higher gearing with no overdrive.

I have 3.73s in it now, going to 4.30s and I still have some 3.42s in the attic but I'm not concerned about gas mileage and the truck isn't daily driven
