Default Pinless accumulators

For those of you that have switched over to the pinless forward accumulator piston or the 1-2,3-4 pinless accumulator: how did you go about removing the pin and how hard was it to do (removing the pin)?

Thanks

oh yeah
and when you put the ball in the hole
"where the pin used to be"
take a punch a little larger than the hole
and smack it a few times so the ball wont shoot out
I think its called stakeing it

also if youre putting in the 1-2 pinless accumulator
I ended up using the 2 stock springs below it because the
transgo springs were too short and didnt fit together to
my likings
but I did use the transgo spring in between the 1-2 and sep plate

That is exactly right.

I used the stock springs on the VB side, and the transgo spring on the case side(3-4).

The pins should come out fairly easily with pliers.

True. And god forbid you should try to get tech support from Transgo...

Ok, that's good to know they come out fairly easy. Thanks.

I am a little concerned why the Transgo springs are too short and you guys used the stock springs, on the 1-2 side. Were you installing them correctly, with one spring on each side of the accumulator? I would not think there is any difference between the thickness of the stock accumulator vs. the sonnax one.

the stock accum. is like a donut shape
where the sonnax piece is "cup" shaped
there was 2 springs below it in mine ,one inside the other
that fit perfectly in the sonnax piece

where the transgo spring was almost swallowed up by the "cup"
which is why I think its too short
and the transgo spring was tight going into the sonnax "cup"
because of the larger outside diam
you would have to force it in to make it work where as the 2 stock springs
fit perfectly and had enough length to let it move

I dont know if all 4l60's come with 2 springs here or not
but I did use the transgo spring on top
the 1 between the sep plate and the 1-2 accum

the sonnax and transgo directions disagree
keep in mind
transgo directions is based on using stock pieces
not sonnax pinless accumulators

flyer here and hitmanx over at woracing helped me with
all my trans questions
might could hit them up as well

The stock acc pistons are just flat pieces of metal, with no skirt. They only have one seal, so they dont need a skirt.

The Sonnax pistons dont use pins to center them in the bore, so they need 2 seals. This requires them to have long skirts.

This is all academic however, as it will make no difference in the end.

Well, I have been curious about the compatability between the pinless and the transgo kit. I tried to get transgo on the phone to answer some of the questions, but no one answered the phone.

But this does coincide, and possibly explain what I found on the tranmissionspecialty.com : "Note: This pinless accumulator piston™ kit does not work with OEM two accumulator spring applications."

So what I am understanding is, for the 1-2, you used the pinless in the stock spring/configuration and on the 3-4 you used the pinless with the transgo kit spring/configuration
