I've been contemplating a t56 swap for a while now, but I have doubts on the longevity of the trans behind a boosted 6.0 and a 6000lb suv, even with 4.56s. Thoughts anyone?
Great thread, btw.

That'd be asking quite a bit of a T56 if you ask me. Instead, you might dig up the thread of a fella who put a ZF-6 (or whatever they're called) into his Avalanche. It was originally from a diesel truck I think, so it's got a granny gear first, but pretty sure he was happy with the swap. Only thing is that tranny is big by huge if I remember correctly.

You could always try it and build up a T56 to try and withstand that kind of punishment, but it'd probably take a lotta coin to do so.

maybe try a 14-bolt with some 4.88s or 5.13s
i saw where a guy was wanting to (or maybe actually did) put a t56 in his OBS suburban. i can't remember how it did, though. i bet you might have to be easy on it until you get a good strong build inside.

the ZF S6-650 is a towing transmission & would be horrible for trying to race (if that's the plan - which with a boosted 6.0 swap, i'd assume it was). not only is it over 200lb, but it'll require a body lift to fit it in the trans tunnel. one thing, though - it'll have no problem hauling your piddly 3-ton butt around!

sounds awesome!

Unless I'm mistaken, I can't think of any reason you would have an abs/parking brake light issue. The tranny wiring shouldn't have anything to do with the braking system.

Yeah, that's a tuning issue. It's the same thing that happens when you do a gear swap. Verify that your VSS pulses per mile are right for your tire size and gear ratio.

Very true, but I guess if you're absolutely dead set on something that'll take the abuse, then there ya go.

Hey guys.

Sorry to beat the proverbial dead horse....But in a mildly modded 4.8L lets say tuned with a cam LT headers and full exhaust, and no TM, and posibly a 9.5" 14B with 488's and 31" tires

What do you think would be the longevity of a T-56. I Don't tow much...and if I do it will be less than 3000 lbs.

I do do a little hauling, but its no where near the max cap. for the truck.

I have read on here that there is an issue keeping clutches in there...

Toss in an LS7 clutch and call it a day. Assuming you do slap some 4.88's in there, that'll ease the strain on the tranny as it'll be easier to push the truck down the road.

If for some reason the LS7 won't do it, which would surprise me given that you aren't going with forced induction or are making just ridiculous amounts of power, an OZ700 would be the next clutch I'd install.
