My drive shaft rubs the bottom of the cab when I accelerate hard through 1st and 2nd gear, hit bumps, and I'm sure it will rub if I put any weight in the bed. I'm going to measure and cut an inch or two off the top of the cross member. I could have saved $150 and used my automatic cross member if I wanted to cut and weld to make it work lol!
I also read a few people had problems with there cruise control and speedo.
I just had a buddy follow me on the cell phone to get my speedo dialed in and for some reason my cruise works in 6th... I don't know why other people have had any problems with it....
chances are by doing this your driveline angle will be wrong. when using a aftermarket trans mount like a energy suspension one and using the 5 speed crossmember and a 3/4 drop with a heavy wall 3" DS there are no issues. also check your pinion angle as well. if that is indeed off the driveshaft angle wil lbe off and be facing upward to cause issues of rubbing against floor

Yeah, sounds like you and me are in the same boat, cause after adding it all up, I don't know if I'll be able to swing the T56 swap, 14-bolt, and built driveshaft all at once. Unfortunately, I'm still pimpin the G80, so I know I'm on borrowed time with that. In fact, I thought it popped on me the other day but I guess I was lucky.

I thinkin I might just toss the gears and TrueTrac in the 10-bolt for the time being until I can save up enough money for the 14-bolt and new driveshaft, and then sell the 10-bolt stuff to recoup some money.

Hrm...

I considered that route, but hate doing stuff twice - especially when it's regarding the rear I'm rocking 22s on 305/40-22 rubber as well, which certainly is not helping the G80 survive.

I all ready have a 1-piece aluminum VHO driveshaft, so that's one less thing on my end. The 05 - 06 VHO rear will bolt up in it's entirety to my truck. Just need the core, a TrucTrac, and 4.56s.

My driveline isnt to bad now that I cut an inch off the top of the cross member. It should be pretty close to being perfect when I launch hard. I'd have to mount a camera under the truck to know for sure.....

I don't have cruise control at all now lol! Its in my tune though... after I installed the 4.88's and adjusted my tune my abs light stays on and the CC doesn't work. The speedo calculator on EFI shows that I have an 80 inch tire, At least my speedo is right lol!

I promise that swapping the trans and cross member raised the drive train angle ( brought it closer to 0 degree's) It was only about an inch to high at the trans mount which I'm sure most people wouldn't notice unless they measured before and after, If my truck didn't have a shaker hood I'm sure I wouldn't have noticed....

ok I'm a noob to this swap and I have read thru all 53 pages of this thread to find the answer to this question. havent found it so............. I'm looking at putting a 5.3 in my old ford truck and I'm looking to put a T56 behind it. Now I want to still use my truck as a truck and would like to be able to tow my 01 SS behind it when I transfer. Is this trans going to explode on me or will I be able to drive this thing out to VA or FL with my camaro on either a dolly or flatbed trailer. My truck is a 2wd shortbed 79 ford. I know the engine will have the power just worried about the transmission not being up to the task of going thru the mountains with the car on the back. This would be a one time trip. I know if I could do it I wouldnt even think of putting that tranny in 6th with a load on it.

I would try to find a viper built trans OR perhaps one out of the GTO or SSR they are built with more heavier duty parts. My viper built trans pulled a 28ft trailor with a mustang in it with no problems and I am using a factory corvette clutch.
