Default nvg-149 questions

so i got a nvg149 off a member of the form and busted it open 2 install the new oil pump clip. to find that there were metal shavins n the pick up tube and bout a half inch of metal on the mag. found out that the shavings were from just normal were and the plantery gear was bad. but my question is there was also sum black rubber/plastic lookin material n there also. looks like splines of sum sort. could this b the material out of the vicous coupler? if any one has buisted one open and saw this let me kno what u did. do i run the viscous coupler or get a new one? any help would be amazin thanx

A lot of the time the rubberized material you’re describing is actually the sealant the factory uses to seal the case halves. You would think they would do a little cleaner job; however a lot of people describe finding the same issue upon disassembly. As far as the viscous coupler, it’s a sealed unit, so nothing should be coming from it. It is a non-serviceable unit and if it were to go bad, the only course of action is replacement. Sonnax also has an item that is probably more fool proof in protecting the housing from the oil-pump than the factory pieces, however I'm sure it also costs quite a bit more.

Sonnax addresses the problem by replacing the steel clips with plastic clips and also includes a screwed on wear plate to keep the aluminum pump body from making direct contact to the case.

I can’t say why it looks like it does, especially not seeing it, but some people have found there is so much of the crap in the oil pump pick-up screen that you would wonder how it didn’t starve of oil from the get-go.
