If your truck has the traction assist feature then it is programmed to keep the tires from spinning. That's supposed to be doing you a favor You can disable that feature. Check your manual. Welcome here. You'll like it! Regards, JimS

Yeah what's up the the drums?! All I could find in Texas was one with 3.23, hoping to switch to at least 3.73's. Will a hypertech get rid of the torque management and all the other bs, or do I have (need) to go with a custom tune? I read the manual and I don't have the button to turn off the traction control.

The 5.3 has plenty of power to spin the tires on a truck. Torque Management is the reason why you can't spin the tires. Every car maker today has some form of TM in the PCM (computer). If you plan on keeping your truck for a long time, I would keep all (or at least some) of the TM. '99 and newer GM trucks have problems with transmission failures and TM reduces the stress on the trans. The Hypertech programmer does NOT remove TM. If you want to remove TM, you need to contact custom PCM programmers like Wait4Me, Nelson, etc. You could also program the PCM yourself using LS1Edit, HPTuners, etc.

So no smokey burnouts with the hypertech? Does anyone want to buy a truck tent for a short bed?
