Default need help finding a tranny

well. this is how it is... i need to upgrade my tranny so when i get my parts i wont be without a car. my dad was telling me about a aold long lost buddy of his that had a chevy silverado. with tomfflers and a 350 chevymotor with all the fixings... but took a sander and f'ed up the paint so it looked old and beat up. this guy would race people with this truck and kick there *** all the way. he had a tranny called a turbo-400 it was made by gm and was supposedly indestructable.... well the story goes the guy beinging a smart *** was going along at 35-40 (leaving his house) and decides to prove how tough this trany is he barry's it and then throws it into reverse the tranny survived but the rear gears were rubbed flat and the u-joint for the driveshaft was broke. so along story short i want this tranny......

The 4l80e is basically a TH400 with an overdrive if I'm not mistaken. Both are strong as hell. Like Quicksilverado said, you'll be fine with the 4l80e.

The turbo 400 are very good trannies, but there is no overdrive and no electronics. I have heard of people using a turbo 400 behind a LS1, but they were also installed in the first gen Camaro, Chevelle, and Novas. To install a 400 in a silverado truck, you will need a crossmember, stand alone engine harness and some way to hook up the electronic kickdown, something like this.
