You'll want to remove that reverse checkball. I didnt on my dual feed 4l80e and reverse was slooooow to engage. All good after I removed it! I think I removed 9 & 10 in total.

Yes I will be removing the rev, and 2nd accumulator checkball for sure. I'm contemplating removing the direct checkball as well for the 2-3 shift.. I have all the holes in the spacer plate drilled to .125" but I'm thinking I should pull the direct checkball and call it a day...

I ended up finding the two cushion plates go with the ID facing down so I tore the trans back apart and fixed it. Not sure what would have happened with them installed upside down but it's right now.

I got the pump aligned and intalled, so the only thing left is the valvebody. I have it most of the way torn apart but I can't figure out how to disassemble two parts in it. I'll get it rebuilt tonight and hopefully installed.

Is that a factory drain plug on the side?

Yes.. the one I have in my truck is an early core like the one pictured but it doesn't have a drain plug. Definitely a plus

That's an interesting pan. All the ones I had seen were angled towards the back. Mine had a factory plug but it was recessed and not off the side like that.

Scary when that stuff happens! Sucks about your hand. I had one come off and got lucky that it went opposite of my body. Best of luck with the hand!
