I have all the hard parts from Jake in my 80e. 36 element sprag, Billet drum out of a TH400, hardened input and output shafts, all the goodies you would expect out of a lvl5 trans plus the 2.75 gear set.. I love it. It has been in my truck problem free for 7-8 mos. Now I'm ready to start throwing tons of nitrous at it as soon as the rear end is complete! Jake has good stuff and is honest. He stands by his parts and work! To me that's worth a lot.

Did Jake build the trans for you? I'm going to give his shop a call and get pricing on on the upgraded hard parts I'll be using.

Got the pan off and it doesn't look too bad inside I don't think. It is kind of milky but doesn't look as dirty as I've seen some pictures.

Got the valve body off and all the check ***** out. All of them came out fine except this one was pressed into the separator plate for some reason. Is that normal??

So here is where I'm at now. I keep getting distracted. I'm going to do the rest of the tear down right now.

I suggest using an old brake rotor to put the tail part in when you unstack it. It keeps everything up right.

To do the valve body stuff you can put the trans on an engine stand.

Thanks for the recommendation Atomic. I think I'm going to make a bench mount for it but we will see. I currently don't have 220v at this new shop space I just moved to so I can't run my welder...

Well, that was extremely easy. Any monkey can tear a 4L80e down. Not nearly as many parts as I thought there would be on tear down. Now I will figure out a way to get everything cleaned up as I don't have a parts washer anymore. I'm sure the hard part is putting the sub assemblies back together so I'm looking forward to learning that part. I love this crap.

I blew it off with air and wiped it with a rag. Worked fine

Actually might go that route Corey. I could use a small parts washer for tools and misc stuff around the shop. How long did you soak the sub assemblies in mineral spirits for?

usually over night, i just filled it up with parts and let it sit, because i was in no rush. Then slightly brushed everything off, then hosed with brake clean. My tranny was pretty clean just normal crap on it...
