Default Material used in Driveshafts?

Anyone know why I have a Steel driveshaft vs Aluminum?
Is it a Z71 or 4x4 thing?
Just wondering, thinking Aluminum would be lighter and better for acceleration.

they use steel driveshafts in shortbeds, aluminum in longbeds, due to the length. I believe the extended cabs, have a two piece steel unit. because the two pieces are shorter.

Take a magnet to it. If it sticks, then it is steel.

If your looking to upgrade, the money could probably be spent in a better place. The gains will be minimal.

I have a x-cab short bed 4x4 and it has a 1 peice aluminum drive shaft. I think there both about as strong. I've heard of both of them failing about 130-140 mph. Something to think about.
