I want to lower the rear of my new 4wd 2500HD so it rides level, and makes towing a 5th wheel easier. I want to maintain stock ride and load capacity, so have decided to simply go with lowering shackles (and pinion shims if needed). From my measurements, the truck sets about 2.5-3" high in the rear. So, I know that BellTech makes a lowering shackle (Model # 6403) that is 4.25" longer hole to hole, so that should lower the rear end about 2 1/8" (just about right). My question has to do with strength. This truck is used for medium weight towing, and hunting and fishing using 4wd. So far, the only brands I have found BellTech and Western Chassis make theirs out of 3/16" steel (the same as stock). It seems as if the longer shackles would be better if they were constructed of thicker steel. Does anyone make a stronger lowering shackle?

 

They are fine I have had belltechs on my 98' 3500 for five years now and I regularly tow and haul and live down a pretty shitty road. There have been zero problems with them. If I load it really heavy the backend will squat lower than the front and it then handles and rides funny but that is to be expected.

 

How long are your Belltechs? They told me they make 2 versions - one is 9.25" long and the other is 11.25" long.
