I had a set of 16 inch wheels for track use and had to grind my front calipers to clear. I might have a thread about it...but i dont remember for sure.

as far as rear brakes i have no idea...15" wheels clear my rear drums with ease...so i dont have to care

the rears clear 16" wheels. i doubt 15s would even come close.

2005 silverado, how much did you have to grind of the caliper to clear your 16" wheels? the only reason i havnt done the fronts yet is because i run my stock wheels in the winter. i was going to go one more winter with the 16s and then do the fronts in the spring so i would have all summer to find 17s, but if they can easily clear the 16s, i'll stay with those.

My rotors looked that bad because in august my transmission blew. the truck sat in my driveway until february when i finally swapped in the 4L65E. and they collected a lot of rust from not driving it. I machined the front rotors when i did the trans, but the rears were so rusted i couldnt get them off and said screw it. so i've been driving like that since then.

I just bought a $350 puller from the snap-on truck that pulls off stuck rotors with no effort. it was well worth the money, since i run into stubborn rotors at least once a week at work.

Wow. Learn something new everyday. Never seen a rotor so rusted it stuck lol. At least nothing a bfh couldn't handle....

yeah, we have a huge problem with rotors up here. if you drive them everyday, they won't rust on the surface. if you don't, they look like the one i pictured. thats the first time in 10 years i've had rotors rust on this truck, and its because they were sitting for so long.

the other problem we see, no matter how often you drive, is a rust ridge builds up on the inside of the rotor, so it gets stuck on the E-brake shoes when you try to pull them off. you will also see the front rotors get really rusted and get stuck on the front hubs. 2500's are the worse for this problem.

I haven't been working professionally on cars/trucks for several years, but we used to simply apply some anti-seize on the backsides of the rotors around the wheel stud holes and also on the center hub holes of the rotors to prevent that.

so if i have an 04 i have the same brake setup as you guys and this upgrade still applies right? did you use gm calipers or get them at a parts store?

Basically its swapping the rears to a dual piston caliper? Rotors are bigger or smaller?

And the front 05 brakes are the same?

Damn I wish I had rear disc on my Colorado!

But on the 09+ newer Colorados have larger front brakes, well come to find out you can do pretty much the same swap on the front brakes. The 09+ stuff will work, so all you need is the newer rotors and calipers!
