Default How much should a junk yard 4L80 cost to use as a "core"?

I know it's kind or a retarded question, but I am trying to put together the stuff for my 4L80 2WD swap in my 07 classic, and I am looking at some of the companie's core charges for a semi built 4L80. I have seen them from $700 and up for the 80's. I have seen a LOT of guys just get a low mile junk yard 80 for about a grand and instal the shift kit with good luck. My only problem is that I am stationed in California so everyone feels like things should cost an arm and a leg. I work with some good ole boys from texas that talk about 4x4 stuff they go through from junk yards for DIRT cheap.....buuuuttt that is outside of California. SO, what do you guys think.......how much SHOULD a core from a junk yard cost you to buy and turn in when going to a built 4L80? I keep on thinking about selling my 4L70 and that would cover the core cost......not sure if that is a reality for just a stock trans that works without issue......what do you guys think? Any ideas are welcome......unless it is cut a hole in the floor and fred flinstone it to the stripe....I don't own leathers or some fire shoes......ha ha!

I spent 700-800 on mine. It was in good working order, i probably could have ran it the way it was. I did not want to buy a super cheap one with a ton of miles that require replacing alot of hard parts.

I talked with a guy who build trans and he told me he has a connection that sells him guaranteed (No broken parts) cores for 300-350. Maybe you can ask a local shop if they will let you know who they use?

I know LKQ was sales on holidays like the 4th of JUly for 50% off, I would check if you have not found one by them or bought one from a sponsor.
